Why Africa now

The African iGaming opportunity is structural: high mobile-phone penetration (smartphones often the primary internet device), young median populations (median age in Nigeria is 18), enthusiasm for sports betting (Premier League and Africa Cup of Nations driving demand), and mobile-money payment rails (M-Pesa in Kenya, MoMo in Ghana, Pesalink and Airtel Money cross-border) that bypass the credit-card infrastructure absent in most markets.

Three markets dominate the conversation: South Africa (fully regulated, the National Gambling Board licenses online), Nigeria (state-by-state licensing, Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory most active), and Kenya (BCLB licensing, the M-Pesa integration is the structural differentiator).

Programme tracks

  • South Africa regulatory deep dive (NGB enforcement priorities, KZN and Western Cape provincial nuances)
  • Nigeria multi-state expansion
  • Kenya M-Pesa and mobile-money integrations
  • Ghana / Tanzania / Uganda emerging-market positioning
  • Sports betting (the dominant vertical in Africa — casino is secondary)
  • Affordability and responsible gambling in low-income markets

Who shows up

  • South African market leaders: Hollywoodbets, Betway South Africa, Supabets, World Sports Betting
  • Kenyan operators: Betika, SportPesa, OdiBets
  • Nigerian operators: Bet9ja, NairaBet, BetKing, SportyBet
  • Pan-African platform providers (often white-labelled to local operators)
  • Payment processors with mobile-money rails

Free expo pass on pre-registration. Conference pass €495+. Africa-specific networking events partly invite-only.

VegasHunter coverage angle

We track SiGMA Africa to inform our 2027 roadmap — whether to add African locales (en-za, en-ng) to VegasHunter or stay focused on our current 14 European and LATAM markets. The market signal here informs the call.

Why this matters

Africa is the highest-growth iGaming region of the decade — Nigeria alone has 10M+ active sports bettors, Kenya runs M-Pesa-native gambling at scale, South Africa is the only fully-regulated mature market. SiGMA Africa is where the year's strategic commitments to the region get signed.
