Format and history

The IGA has run since 2008. The format is consistent: black-tie dinner, ~22 award categories spanning operator, supplier, regulator, and innovation tracks, presented by industry figures rather than celebrities. The deliberately understated approach is part of the brand — IGA pitches itself as the industry’s serious recognition event, distinct from the larger and more theatrical SBC Awards.

Categories that matter

The categories with the most market signal: Casino Operator of the Year, Slots Provider of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Online Casino of the Year, Affiliate Programme of the Year. These five drive most of the post-event marketing the winners deploy.

Three categories were added in recent editions reflecting regulatory pressure: Responsible Gambling Programme of the Year, Cybersecurity Provider of the Year, and AI/Machine Learning Innovation of the Year. Whether these become enduring categories or rotate out depends on industry signal in 2026 voting cycles.

Nomination cycle

Open nominations run September–November preceding the ceremony. Shortlists published mid-December. Voting is partly judging-panel (industry executives, retired regulators) and partly peer voting (registered industry contacts). The hybrid model means well-marketed nominees have an advantage in peer rounds, while genuinely innovative-but-quiet operators can still win the judge-only categories.

What VegasHunter watches

We track which operators win categories we ranked them in. If an operator that scored 8.5+ on our methodology wins IGA Operator of the Year, that’s confirming signal. If an operator wins despite middling player-facing scores (slow cashier, weak responsible-gambling tools), we re-examine the criteria gap.

Why this matters

IGA is one of three industry awards (alongside EGR and SBC) that carry weight in operator marketing. Win one and it appears in your homepage hero. Win none and the absence is noted.
